OBJECT FOR THE SPACE 001

An object created for KIOSQUE CC, a select shop that curates independent brands from Japan and around the world.
Inspired by the form of an elephant, the piece is composed of sixteen wooden blocks.
Each block contains a magnet of a different color, and when matching colors are brought together, the complete figure of an elephant emerges.
With their abstract forms, the individual blocks can be freely combined like building blocks, allowing them to transform into a variety of configurations in response to different display needs and uses.
While sculptural in nature, the object also functions as a display fixture, introducing new expressions and possibilities within the space.
This project marks the first installment of “OBJECT FOR THE SPACE,” a collaborative series with fashion designer Keisuke Kanai.
The concept evolved through interviews and research conducted with the shop, taking as its starting point a collage created by Kanai.Balancing the flexibility of ever-changing configurations with the potential for more experimental modes of display, the work seeks to blur the boundary between object and fixture while exploring new relationships between form, function, and space.
Closely tied to its environment, the object was designed specifically for this place and finds its completion through its presence within it.
It is an object intended to create a unique and site-specific value for the space it inhabits.

国内外のインディペンデントブランドを取り扱うセレクトショップ「KIOSQUE CC」のために制作したオブジェクト。
象をモチーフとした本作品は、全16個の木製ブロックによって構成されている。
それぞれのブロックには異なる色のマグネットが組み込まれており、同じ色同士を組み合わせることで、一頭の象の姿が現れる仕組みとなっている。
抽象的なフォルムを持つ各ブロックは、積み木のように自由な組み合わせが可能であり、展示内容や用途に応じて多様な形態へと変化する。
彫刻的なオブジェクトでありながら、ディスプレイ什器としても機能し、空間に新たな表情と可能性をもたらす。
本プロジェクトは、ファッションデザイナー金井慶介との協働による「OBJECT FOR THE SPACE」シリーズの第一弾として制作された。
ショップへのヒアリングとリサーチを重ね、その過程で金井が制作した一枚のコラージュを起点に構想を発展させている。自由な組み合わせによって形態を変化させる柔軟性と、従来の什器にはない実験的な展示表現。
その両立を目指して生まれた本作品は、オブジェクトと什器の境界を横断しながら、空間との新たな関係性を探る試みである。
空間と密接に結びつき、その場所のために設計され、その場所において完成する。
これは、特定の空間に固有の価値を与えるためのオブジェクトである。
